Together with the jury, Isaria hands over the prize money to the students and teachers for the artistic design of the construction fence on the theme of “Future Living” in the Mühlbachviertel.
Dachau, October 25, 2022
For the students and teachers, it’s a successful change of pace just before the year-end rush and a nice opportunity to look back on the achievements from the last school year. At the end of the last school year, ten classes from different schools, together with their teachers, designed the construction fence at the new Mühlbachviertel on the theme of “Future Living”. Under the guidance of the artists’ association Outer Circle e.V., the children sprayed their ideas for the development of the former paper mill site using graffiti techniques. The result was many colorful works of art depicting green landscapes between beautiful houses with enough space for sports and leisure.
After a public vote on the social media channels and review by a jury consisting of city councilors Katja Graßl, Tobias Stephan, Markus Erhorn and Lord Mayor Florian Hartmann as well as Isaria management spokesman David Christmann, the winners have been determined. On Tuesday, October 25, 2022, the jury members met at the corner of Freisinger Straße and Konrad-Adenauer-Straße to honor the winners and present all participating artists with their prize money.
Winners are all
“I would like to thank the students and teachers and the jury for the ‘Art on the Building Fence’ campaign. I believe that the artistic design of the students with the ideas of a qualitative neighborhood development has shown that the city of Dachau and its city councils have taken the interests of the young people seriously in the planning. The new quarter will turn the ideas of the youth into reality with large green spaces, sufficient sports and leisure areas. Now it’s time to tackle the realization of the Mühlbachviertel and take responsibility for its development,” says David Christmann. Isaria is realizing the project for Deutsche Wohnen. Together with the city councilors, David Christmann honored the students’ achievements and presented the three classes with the most votes from the public ballot and the jury’s result with a check for €500 each for their class coffers.
The two classes from the Dachau-Süd middle school, led by principal Anja Kreter, received the most votes. The eighth-graders, together with their teachers Ms. Drewes and Mr. Heilein, depicted the transition of the industrial site into a livable neighborhood for all Dachau residents. While the first artwork mainly focused on opportunities for recreational activities – basketball courts, a surf wave and large green spaces – in the second artwork the students symbolically formulated in abstract honeycombs the issues that are important to them in a neighborhood development: Sustainability, energy supply, and urban modernity combined with respect for the site’s history. The silhouette of a man looking at the site symbolizes the view into the future.
The future was also the theme of the third winners, who formulated the aspirations for the new quarter with the lettering ‘Dachau future’. The Realschule Dachau, together with their teacher Gabriele Mathes, painted a large toadstool with tall residential buildings lining it to form an idyllic skyline. Emblazoned in the middle is the slogan ‘Dachau Future’, which underscores the aspirations of a modern neighborhood. The classes were delighted with the prize, which they will use for new projects or excursions.
The participating schools
The other classes that took part in the campaign received a school cone with sweets and 70 euros each for their class coffers. Participating were: Theresa-Gerhardinger-Realschule Weichs (6th grade), Montessori-Schule-Dachau with four different classes from fourth to sixth grade, Realschule Dachau with two eighth grades, Augustenfeld Elementary School (fourth grade) and two eighth grades from Mittelschule Dachau-Süd.
